Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 13, 2026
Watchr ("the app," "we") helps you find nearby stores and community-reported beer and wine prices. Watchr is operated by Whatchr LLC (Sumter, South Carolina). This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, and what you can control.
What we collect
Account information. When you sign up (email, Google, or Apple) we collect your email address and display name so you have an account and your contributions can be credited to you.
Location. With your permission, the app uses your device's precise location to show nearby stores, detect which store you're shopping at, and calculate distances. We do not keep a continuous history of where you go; reports you submit are associated with the store you selected, not with a location trail.
Community contributions. Prices, deals, store corrections, and reports you submit — including product names, prices, store names, and your display name — are stored and shown publicly to other users. Assume anything you contribute is public.
Photos you scan. Shelf photos you upload are stored so we can improve product recognition. Receipt scans are stored privately to your account.
Receipts. If you scan a receipt, the recognized text, store, item count, and total are saved privately to your account. Receipts are visible only to you and are permanently deleted when you delete your account.
Preferences. Settings such as notification toggles, your watchlist, and challenge progress are stored on your device and, for your watchlist, on our servers so it survives reinstalling the app.
Barcode lookups. When you scan a barcode, we send the barcode number — and nothing else about you — to Open Food Facts to look up the product name.
Aggregated and de-identified data
Community-contributed prices are the heart of Watchr, and inside the app they are already public. We may combine that pricing information into aggregated, de-identified datasets, reports, and insights — for example, "the average price of a 12-pack in South Carolina this month" — and we may publish, share, or license those insights, including commercially.
Before any such dataset leaves Watchr:
- We remove display names, user IDs, and anything else identifying who reported a price.
- We never include your email, your account details, your receipts, or your location history.
- We require recipients not to attempt to re-identify individuals.
These insights are about prices and markets, not about people. We do not sell your personal information.
Advertising
Watchr does not show ads today. If we introduce advertising or sponsored placements in the future, we will update this policy first, and:
- Sponsored content will be clearly labeled as sponsored.
- Payment will never change which store is actually cheapest. The price ranking is not for sale.
- If we ever work with an advertising partner that would track you across other apps and websites, we will ask your permission first through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your personal information — not your identity, not your email, not your location history.
- We do not track you across other apps and websites.
- We never let anyone pay to change which store shows up as cheapest.
How your data is stored
Data is stored with Supabase (our database and authentication provider) in the United States, protected by row-level security so only you can access your private data. Public community content is readable by all users.
Who we share it with
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider.
- Apple / Google — only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Open Food Facts — receives the barcode number when you scan a product.
- Recipients of the aggregated, de-identified insights described above.
- Anyone we're legally required to disclose to.
We do not share your personal information with data brokers or advertisers.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, and other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, get a copy of it, correct it, delete it, opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information and of targeted advertising, and not be treated differently for exercising those rights.
- Delete everything: Profile → Delete Account, any time, in the app.
- Get a copy, correct something, or ask a question: email dupree.samuel@gmail.com and we'll respond.
- Opt out: we do not currently sell or share personal information for targeted advertising. If that ever changes, we will provide a clear opt-out in the app and honor Global Privacy Control signals where required.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your profile, your receipts, and your personal data. Prices and reports you contributed remain in the community dataset but are anonymized — no longer linked to you or your name — so the data other people rely on stays intact.
How long we keep data
We keep your account information and receipts while your account is open. Deleting your account deletes them. Anonymized community contributions are kept indefinitely.
Age
Watchr contains alcohol-related content and is intended for users of legal drinking age (21+ in the United States). It is not directed at children.
Changes
We'll update this policy as the app evolves and note the date above. If we make a material change — such as introducing advertising — we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
